Maryland has enacted policies that limit local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, effectively functioning as a sanctuary State.
These measures include restrictions on law enforcement inquiries into immigration status and limitations on information sharing with federal authorities. However, the U.S. Department of Justice has not officially designated Maryland as a sanctuary State, and the State has faced legal challenges from federal authorities over these policies.
Some localities within Virginia, such as Fairfax County, have adopted policies that limit cooperation with Federal Immigration Authorities.
